two episodes of the 80s show; FRIDAY NIGHT VIDEOS dvds, 10/14/83 and 10/28/83. this is an amazing couple of dvds, LOADED with an excellent selection of early 80s videos, as well as a good variety. not to mention they have all the original commercials that are equally amazing and will time warp you back to 1983 (seriously). both episodes are complete 90 min each and lastly the quality is awesome, 9 out of 10 easily. recommended if the time frame or nostaligia interests you.
3 more discs of Friday Night Videos (as well as the two listed below) they all have original commercials as well; one disc has 30 minutes from a 1983 episode and 1 hour from a 1984 episode, quality 8/10, the next disc has a full 1.5 hour episode from 1985, quality 8.5. the last disc has about an hour of a 1984 episode and 20 minutes of a 1988 episode, quality 8.5.

the Godfather of Disco – this is an unreleased 2007 documentary about the record label West End records and its owner Mel Cherren which many consider to be the godfather of HOUSE MUSIC aka garage/disco/club/dance music. it is filled with legendary garage and house dj’s speaking about west end and mel. him and his label were the force behind the legendary night club PARADISE GARAGE. disco really isnt a fair description bcuz everyone thinks bee gees and village people, this is about the good stuff. not studio 54 garbage. recommended for all house heads! the “paradise garage” disc listed below is a great addition to this disc since the documentary speaks a lot about the paradise garage. grade A quality. also check out my paradise garage dvd below.

Combining RARE old band interviews and rare LIVE footage from 1976 thru the 80s (not from the shows i have below), we learn how the band formed and has survived for 30 years via a live sit down interview with getty and alex. 1 hour, grade A. THIS IS AWESOME!! and honestly i like it better than the recent official 2 dvd documentary, simply bcuz it focus’ more on old rush rather than new rush.

Rush 74-82 comp. quality 7 out of 10. its loaded with TONS of rare clips. 1hr 30min. has live perf. (not lypsync like on below disc) from d.k.r.c. in 74 with 3 songs in front of audience, (the mood, best that i can, finding my way). interviews from ‘80, a canadian show in 81 talking about canadian rock, they talk w/ and about rush, they show live clips & videos of rush, clips from a tv show called video jukebox and from rock world. there are MTV videos for 6 songs off of moving pictures, (countdown, vital signs, subdivisions, tom sawyer, limelight, closer to the heart). etc etc etc.

Rush 76 & RUSH ‘77 – first is RARE black & white rush in passaic new jersey 76. there is a time code stamp across the screen that is little annoying however you get use to it pretty quick and the quality is excellent for B/W and this rare. grade A- 40 minutes. then 20 min of them on DKRC 1977 lip-synched, grade A.

something very rare, the only episode in circulation of the 1978 local chicago tv show “John Q’s Entertainment Scene”, this was a local lower budget soul train ripoff. same idea and format as soul train, kids dancing to disco, r and b, and soul. also in this episode is an interview with the then bodyguard MR.T, this is before the fame, before the gold chains, before the mohawk! very rare!

“soul alive”, another rare 1978 gem, very similar to the JOHN Q program, the only episode in circulation of the new york based soul train rip off show called “SOUL ALIVE”, a dance show that also has disco dance contests against rival new york disco dancers. live guest singing app. be whitney houstons mother; cissy houston. with kids dancing on a lit up disco floor.

“dance fever”, the only episodes in circulation of the dance contest show hosted by denny terio, the guy who taught john travolta how to dance for the movie saturday night fever. this is the 1980 and 1981 xmas special episodes, 1981 quality is low but it is very rare.

“soul tv”, 1972 on WNET from new york city, with special guest performer Stevie Wonder, performing as WONDERLOVE, guitarist ray parker jr. this is very similar to the soul train episode where stevie performs for all the kids on the floor at his piano. stevie is in prime form.

then something that belongs in all soul train collections, james browns 1975 atlanta tv show “future shock”, this is another straight ripoff of soul train, but with less money and james brown hosting while seemingly high. but just like soul train, kids dancing (atlanta style), mostly to james’ music and musicians/singers he worked with or produced.

know any JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE fans? this is HOME MOVIES of; the Making of Justified dvd set. this is a 20 hours worth of private home movies that justin and trace made while making the justified album. these are completely unreleased and unavailable. straight up high quality home movies of the most rare personal footage, simply them running around with a video camera, mostly in the studio working on the album. brian mcknight and the neptunes are in it a lot, hanging out in the hotel room for a little party, walking around town while he goes shopping, flying on a private jet, photo sessions, messing around with a bag of marijuana!, LOTS of chilling in the studio and singing, him and pharrell writing lyrics and music, practing singing them out loud with each other. footage you will never see anywhere else but from this dvd set. basically you feel like you are personally hanging out with him. he is generally talking right into the video camera, kind of like he is talking directly to you.

Jethro Tull ‘70 from an official 2005 dvd release of the 1970 concert on the isle of wight. basically woodstock u.k. 600,000 people! this is actually hosted by ian anderson, and he talks all about the events that say as well as starting jethro tull and playing the flute. not to mention the full concert with backstage etc. awesome dvd if your a fan of tull. has spanish subtitles on screen. quality is A+. 1hr 20 min.

“Wizard of Floyd” aka “Darkside of The Rainbow” aka; pink floyd vs. the wizard of oz. ok some of you have heard of this in the past, the movie the wizard of oz with the audio track replaced with pink floyds dark side of the moon album. a classic stoner gem, like pink floyd at the lazarium. basically the music from the album seems to track very well with the changes in the movie all on its own, just playing start to finish with the movie,no special editing and makes for a very interesting chillout video. this is digital GRADE A+ quality.
